Day 30

I have an issue of sorts with today's craft.  It's a card, but it's a card for someone who might see it on this blog and I don't want to ruin the surprise.  What I'm going to do is show a teaser, and once they receive it, which will be in a few days, I will update this post with the "real" pictures.  Sorry to be all secretive, but I don't want to ruin the surprise!

I must say though, my card skills are getting better!!

UPDATE 3/13/11 - Beth got her baby shower card so I can show it here now!!!  CONGRATULATIONS BETH!!!

Day 29

I know some of people might not consider today's craft, a craft.  And in a way, I guess I don't either.  I consider it a WORK OF ART!!!!  :)

I don't cook from scratch very often but I recently bought these really cute soup/sandwich dish sets (see pictures!) and then I got a recipe for potato soup (recipe here) and decided today was a good day to make it.  I made grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it!  Everything from scratch!  Very not like me!

When it was all done and ready to be eaten I realized that even something as "everyday" as cooking can be a craft.

Delicious potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches on beautiful cobalt blue tableware:

And another beautiful and delicious picture!!

Day 28

I did the same craft as yesterday!  I know, sort of lame, but as I said with Post 27, "Been super busy and had to do a super easy craft!  Coloring!!!  We have a coloring book called "Coloring Mandalas: For Balance, Harmony and Spiritual Well-Being".  It's very relaxing and fun to color the mandalas in this book.  I used colored pencils."  I promise I'll be more creative tomorrow!

Day 27

I'm actually posting this on "Day 28" because I was unable to get online yesterday.  Here is my craft from yesterday (day 27)...and as you will see it's very similar to today's (day 28) craft!  Been super busy and had to do a super easy craft!  Coloring!!!  We have a coloring book called "Coloring Mandalas: For Balance, Harmony and Spiritual Well-Being".  It's very relaxing and fun to color the mandalas in this book.  I used colored pencils.

Day 26

Tonight I was flipping through my trusty "The Big-Ass Book of Crafts" and I found this craft.  I wanted to do a bunch, but I got side tracked by American Idol, I admit it!  So I did one of my muse, my love, my pookie bear...Stan!  Awwww...

This is my 3D Stan.  For when the "real" one isn't around.  Of course he isn't much of a talker, but hey, he's a great listener.

I took a picture of Stan from his brothers wedding, I cut him out of the background.  I then took a piece of cardboard, scored it with a craft knife on one end, folding about a quarter of an inch up.  I then smeared elmer's glue all over the fold and stuck Stan to it.  (The picture Stan, not the real one.)  It was that simple!!  YAY for simple!!

Before picture - (a picture of a picture):

All cut out and pasted - 3D Stan (and a Cody paw, he's so nosy...Cody, not Stan):

And another picture of the finished Stan and another Cody paw:

Here is what the back looks like, in case you were dying to know:

Day 25

I really have no idea how I came up with today's craft idea.  I was sitting at work, thinking about what craft I should do when I get home, doing a mental run down of what I had on hand.  I remembered that I had some sample material that a store had sent me in the mail.  Those little 2" x 2" squares, in several different styles and designs.  Also, lately I have been reading a lot about collage, mosaics, and mixed media/altered art.  I eventually want to work on an altered art book.  In any case I started thinking why not do a collage of mosaic material?  Of course then I needed to consider the design.  To make things easy I started doing searches for different pictures that were large and interesting.  I found a spider on a web and as they say, the rest is history...

I cut out pieces of each material as I went, just cutting randomly and by eye.  I used tacky glue and only glued the middle of the material so all the edges were loose and you are able to run your fingers over the art, to get a 3D feel of it.  I didn't worry about staying in the lines, I just wanted it to be random and fun.  I think it came out great.  I'm really happy with the end product.  I wish there was a way to feel things online, it feels cool...take my word for it!

Supplies- spider drawing, tacky glue, fabric squares:

Day 24

I got my daily Martha Stewart Craft of the Day in my email today and low and behold, it was a bookmark!  A ribbon bookmark actually.  I was just going through all my craft supplies the other day and when I got to my box of ribbon I thought, "Hmmm...what am I going to do with this!".  So receiving the email today was a good start to get through my supply!

I pulled out two blue ribbons, one shear blue which was a bit larger then the other.  The other was a smaller dragonfly motif.  I cut small slits horizontal into the larger ribbon in 1.5" increments.  I then threaded the smaller ribbon through the holes leaving a little space at both ends.  I did a simple stitch across the top and bottom where the smaller ribbon ended and then fringed the extra of the larger ribbon.  Voila!!!  A blue dragonfly ribbon bookmark!

Here are the supplies (minus needle and thread, forgot to pull them out):

And here it is in action!  Works great!!  (P.S. If you have not read this book, "The Girl Who Chased the Moon" by Sarah Addison Allen - get it!!!  She is one of my favorite authors and ALL three of her books are awesome!!)
