Day 44

Today's craft is pretty funny.  Well the outcome is anyway.

I have this picture of a field of sunflowers that I enjoy and decided to make it into a Shrinky Dink magnet.  I printed it onto the Shrinky Dink paper with no problem.  It started going down hill when I cut it out.  The cutter I used skipped on the edges, so I had to use regular scissors to trim it.  Apparently while I was cutting I must have had a seizure or something because I went all over the place and though it didn't look to bad at first, I then baked it!  ugh  And on top of the not so straight cutting job, while it was baking, the Shrinky Dink curled and got stuck in a sausage like roll.  I had to use two steak knifes to pry it apart!  Steak knifes and Shrinky Dinks, not a good mix.

So the good news, I got it to lay flat.  Bad news, it looks a mess!  I still slapped some magnet tape on the back and called it a day because the picture is still pretty, and it's currently holding up a picture, so hey, mission accomplished!

Day 40

I would like to point out that it's almost Day 41...this was a long day and a long craft.  Mostly because I was watching American Idol, then Bones and then just random shows after that.  TV can be evil.

I'm off work tomorrow though, so I can sleep in, get my beauty rest for tomorrow's (actually now today's!) craft.

As it's past my bedtime, here is what I did today...Oh, one more thing, have I mentioned I LOVE SHRINKY DINKS!!!!!!  I might change this challenge to one Shrinky Dink project a day for a year!!

I decided to make a Tarot Card Charm Bracelet.  The other day at Michael's I picked up a package of 32" antique silver chain, toggle clasps and O rings (all on sale I might add, bonus!!).  Then yesterday I bought a collage set of vintage Tarot cards on Etsy (for $1.00!!  woo hoo)  Stan took apart the chain for me to make the bracelet size, and put the toggle clasps on it.  I printed the Tarot cards on the Shrinky Dink paper, cut them out, punched holes in the top, baked them, had Stan put the O rings in each Tarot card and I put them on the bracelet.  And it only took FOREVER!  Okay, okay, a few hours, but if I had turned off the TV it would have been sooner I'm sure!

Without further adoooo, here are the pictures!

Day 39

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day!  And I realized I have nothing green, again...!  I own NOTHING that is even a slight shade of green!  Not even a hint of green!  Actually I do have a gray sweater that if you hit the light juuuusst right, it "could" be green, a puke green maybe.  Well I didn't want to wear my, in certain light puke green sweater for the holiday, so I decided to make something to wear.  After all I don't want to get pinched!

Since I have the Shrinky Dink paper I printed a shamrock on it.  I cut it out and shrunk it (cause that's what you do with Shrinky Dinks!) and glued a pin to the back and there you go, an Irish pin so I don't get pinched!  I have a feeling I'll still get pinched, but I tried, and really....that's all you can do!

Back of pin, after I took this picture I turned the pin the other way, so it's now the "long" way (glue needs to dry):

Day 37

I was at Michael's craft store the other day and I saw a blast from my past - Shrinky Dinks!!!  There was no way I could pass up this kind of nostalgia!  I decided on the kind that you can print on using an inkjet printer.  After some online research for projects, I found a cute sunflower bookmark and used that as my inspiration for today's craft!

I went online and found a picture that I liked, in this case it's a Celtic Tree of Life design (one of my favorites, a top contender if I ever get another tattoo) and printed it on the Shrinky Dink paper.  After it printed, I cut it out, used a hole punch at the bottom for the bookmark and baked.  In three minutes I had a mini version of my original design!!  So fun!!!!  I messed up though, but in my defense, I haven't used Shrinky Dinks since I was like um, SEVEN!  The hole I punched shrunk too (duh!) so it was too small for my thread!  I had to sit there with some small scissors and gouge out the hole to fit the thread, but it worked!  You live, you learn...Once I got the hole big enough, I threaded green embroidery thread threw, knotted it, braided it, had Stan thread a light green bead on (see below, got super annoyed and needed help!) and VOILA,  a super cool Shrinky Dink bookmark!!

I have to give a shout out to me peeps, Stan  (LOL...peeps, whenever I say that I imagine a large marshmallow person) because without him I would have either 1. tossed the computer out the window because I could not find the proper printing settings or 2. thrown the almost finished bookmark out the window because I was having issues with tying the knots!  So as always, he's a life saver...or in this case a computer/bookmark saver!

Here is the big version of the picture I used:

And here is what I did with it:
